About Mishablu Cattery
We are a very small cattery breeding and showing only CFA registered Russian Blue Cats. If you would like to learn more about Russian Blues or are interested in adopting a Russian Blue, this is a good place to start.
The origins of Mishablu Russian Blue Cats
We felt compelled to begin breeding sweet tempered Russian Blues after we lost
our first cat, a Russian Blue named Misha, at the age of 16 years. He was an
extraordinary friend - much more than a pet. We knew that the hole left in our
hearts could not be filled by just one cat so we decided to start a cattery
dedicated to the memory of this wonderful feline. Our cats are carefully bred to
have the same kind of loving personality, wacky sense of humor and curiosity
that Misha had. And of course, they are extremely healthy and beautiful as well.
Why are we a CFA Cattery?
We only show our cats at Official CFA Cat Shows. Why? Because CFA has the
highest standards of cat breeding and showing as well as being dedicated to the
welfare of all felines. For example, they have very strict rules against
breeding wild cats with domestic cats to get new breeds. They do not (nor ever
will) recognize the so-called "White Russian Blue" (an oxymoron if there ever
was one!) We know that this is due to an outcropping of the Siamese line bred
into Russian Blues to keep the breed alive during World War II and is not
something true to the original nature of the breed.
How is Mishablu different?
We breed for temperament first and foremost. Research has shown that 70% of a
kitten's personality is determined by his/her father. Our stud cat, Jake, is
such a sweet cat and his kittens have proven the research to be true. If you
come to visit Mishablu in the course of acquiring a kitten, Jake would enjoy a
visit.
No cages for Mishablu Russian Blues
None of our cats are kept in cages - ever! This includes Jake who has his own
room and gets daily visits from many of the cats in the rest of the house. This
can be difficult to do if you are breeding a lot of cats but we only have five
breeding cats - Jake and his four "wives"; Grace, Peeker, Paris and Amy.
Careful Breeding for Healthy Russian Blue Kittens
We do not inbreed - which means that we look carefully at the pedigrees of
each mating pair to see if they have ancestors in common. Every match is
carefully evaluated so that the percentage of shared ancestral ties is less than
3%. This is very important for healthy cats for the same reasons that it is
important for humans.
Lifetime Mishablu cats
All our cats are Mishablu cats for life. Which means that if you can't keep
them for any reason, we will buy them back. We never want to have any of our cat
family end up in shelters or homes where they are not loved extravagantly
